He later joined George Luca's effects studio Industrial Light and Magic (ILM), where he produced many of the matte visual effect backgrounds for the films  Star Wars (1977) and \u003c\/strong\u003e\u003ci data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eThe Empire Strikes Back\u003c\/i\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e (1980). He then returned to Disney and worked on the 1979 film \u003ci data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eThe Black Hole\u003c\/i\u003e, for which he and his father were nominated for an Academy Award for their work. He also worked on \u003ci data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eThe Watcher in the Woods (\u003c\/i\u003e1980), and \u003ci data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eTron\u003c\/i\u003e (1982), and Dick Tracy (1990) for which he was Visual Effects Supervisor.
